Dwight Lyman Moody once said, "Character is what you are in the dark." In other words, a person's true nature sometimes is not revealed until they are put through dark and very hard times. This quotation is true because characters are often put to the test and become very vulnerable and exposed during these hard times. In the book series, "The Witch & The Wizard" by James Patterson, Whit and Wisty Allgood are teen-witch/wizard siblings that put to the test when the New World (N.O.) leader, The One Who Is The One, is out to kill them and take their powers, within these lines, the characters true identities are unveiled during the dark times of their lives, become vulnerable by sharing their true thoughts and emotions, and putting down …show more content…

For example, Whit had never really mourned over the loss of his girlfriend that disappeared until he learned that The One Who Is The One took her and executed her. It was not until then that he was able to face his grief and use it to channel his powers to fight The One. In addition, Wisty faces her emotions during the loss of her parents. She used this to motivate her to fight. Certainly when things got dark for the teens, even within themselves, their true personalities were revealed when they channeled those emotions to fight for a meaningful cause. Lastly, Whit and Wisty had both been conditioned to hide their true thoughts and feelings from society, so they were not perceived as weak. Specifically, they lead the anti-New Order resistance, and they had a belief that showing their followers they were scared would be bad. They saw their vulnerability as weak, while everyone else saw it as courage. Eventually, they both put down that act and asked all of their friends and followers for help. This revealed the characters courage. They were both able to show their true strength by asking for help during dark
