To understand what identity theft is, the first step here is an attempt in providing a definition for identity theft. Like everything else in this world, there are several variations to define identity theft. And is some case it can be up to the interpretation of the individual. One simple term is to pretend to be someone else. Let’s face it, if this was the only definition, then we would all be guilty. After all, how many times have we pretended to be our favorite singer and think we were hitting every note of our favorite song? This is where the real challenge comes in at for the victims, law enforcement and the businesses involved. With identity theft, it is a crime where the perpetrator(s) are usually unknown and can be miles away or even in another country from their victims or it may even be a family member or the person standing right behind you. The best examples that can provide us with some amplifying details on how this silent crime works, we can go to the silver screen. Like all crimes, Hollywood has spared no expense in glorifying and/or teaching us methods of how to commit identity theft. With movies such as “Identity Thief” starring John Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, “Identity Theft” starring Kimberly Williams-Paisley, “The talented Mr. Ripley” starring Matt Damon, “Catch me if you can” Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, “The Net” staring Sandra Bullock, “Face Off” starring John Travolta and Nicholas Cage, “The Jackal” starring Bruce Willis, “Mrs. Doubtfire” starring Robin Williams, “In the Line of Fire” starring Clint Eastwood, Ocean Eleven, with a host of headliner names, and “The Mission Impossible” Francize with Tom Cruise; with all of these movies casting these headliners, almost everyone has become aware of identity theft.
