In Dr. Seuss’s, The Butter Battle Book he uses seemingly harmless items to make connections to the cold war, a potentially deadly war. He does this by using symbolism and themes to bring attention to the matter. Seuss wrote the book to show how bad an arms race and specifically nuclear weapons are for the world. .He also uses more specific examples to add meaning to his story. Some of these include the “Big Boy Boomeroo” that symbolizes the atomic bombs, Grandpa and Van Itch representing the armies of the two countries in the cold war, and the fight of two different ideologies, the allies a more democratic ideology and the Soviets a communist regime.
For sure, the tensions and conflicts of the United States and the Soviet Union being a communist country led to the Cold War. When Truman became president, he inherited the responsibilities of the depleting alliance with the Sovier Union and the making of the atomic bomb. Therefore, both countries worked hard to create more nuclear weapons because they were scared of each other. Each country was in fear that the other country would surprisingly attack it for no reason. The second cause of the Cold War was because of religion. The main reason why The Cold War happened was that both the U.S and USSR wanted full domination over one another. Each wanted more power than the other, always wanted to get better and beat the other. Leaders will always corrupt themselves in the end. I think that the rapid growth of the continuous American expansion was the main reason why USSR wanted more power. They wanted to be at the top, and they wanted to destroy anyone that got in their way of world power.

There were many factors that made the Cold War progressively worse over time. Possibly the largest cause of the worsening relations between the U.S. and Russia was the Vietnam War. North Vietnam’s goal was to unite Vietnam under the means of Communism which went against South Vietnam’s Capitalist state. During the war, Russia and the U.S. backed different parts of Vietnam, intensifying the conflict between the two countries. The U.S. was supporting South Vietnam while Russia was supporting North Vietnam.

America believed that the USSR was an expansionist country trying to spread an evil, communistic idea throughout the world.
