The purpose of this paper is to discuss the main understanding of the movie along with how it relates to present American politics. Also to review on what I personally think of the movie itself. Politics can be a craft to move forward in noble causes, build up intelligent men and women to office, internships, and help make the world a better place. Only in a perfect world that these central motifs would actually work smoothly, in the movie “Ides of March” it shows how politics can also be a corrupt and dirty business where betrayal is overtaken by loyalty. In George Clooney’s film it depicts greatly on the difference between the clever and irreverent U.S. electoral cycle. The main idea of “Ides of March” is that it’s a political drama about a democratic primary campaign taking part in the state of Ohio. “Ides of March” takes place in Ohio which is a swing state which means the vote can go either way. Being under pressure from Morris taking the lead substantially, Pullman trailing behind by a hair puts a lot of pressure on the candidates and their managers. Which lead to dirt on each candidate or it can help them, I see this in real life because I would see during the debates between candidates they are constantly bringing up points and views usually negative to the competitor.
Another way this movie relates to current American politics is media. Media plays a huge roll in modern day society because everyone in the nation watches the news on television and can greatly affect how people view a certain standpoint. In “Ides to March” Ida the reporter was constantly trying to get information out of Stephen or Paul about their campaign with Morris, even resulting in “sexual favors.” It can also influence voters on who to vote for
