V for Vendetta is a film directed by James McTeigue. It follows a masked vigilante known as “V” who uses terrorist methods to bring down the government. James explores many cinematic techniques and themes, including Freedom, Anarchy, and Vengeance. He uses film techniques to communicate with these themes and ideas. In this essay, three themes will be explored from the film, which is Freedom, power of ideas, and Vengeance. Firstly. The power of ideas is a significant theme that is shown in the film. It is personified by the character ‘V’ as he uses Guy Fawkes mask and his obscurity. This shows that it only takes an idea to change a country. This theme is shown in the domino scene from the film. This is where “V” sets up dominoes in the shape of his emblem; this scene shows events that have happened in the past, the present and the future, which is relating to this idea. McTeigue uses many cinematic techniques to emphasise the theme of the power of ideas throughout the film.
