Throughout Bradbury’s book, The Martian Chronicles, a theme of ignorance is displayed. Ignorance can be found in almost each one of the short stories. The citizens of Earth are ignorant to the truth of what really does happen to the expeditions. The Martians have a hard time believing there is life on Earth and vice versa. Banning literature is a way for the government to keep its people living in ignorance.
It is assumed by the people of Earth that the first two expeditions exploded on Mars. They have no reason to believe otherwise; they live in ignorance. Upon arriving on what the expeditioners believe to be Mars, Hinkston thinks the past expeditioners landed on Mars and simply stayed and made a life for themselves. Captain Black assures
