When it comes to the term “ancient civilization” many people think about how the civilization raised or how the people lived? How they regulated their lands? Or what they used to eat? Etc. One of the aspects that many people are curious about is the old-world medicine, how ancient people dealt with illnesses and how they treated their patients? As for the American civilization, the most recorded advanced medicine was in the Aztec’s empire. The Aztec’s Empire was the most powerful Mesoamerican kingdom of old ages. In fact, their culture was full of creativity with a combination of methodology and religious tradition. The Aztec suggested that the human body is affected by the person’s own beliefs. they had a unique view of the health of human body, they believed that there is a balance between the body and the universe, thus, they are both affected by each other. They considered that happiness and health are sequences of good manners subjected to the god’s will. In contrast, Aztecs believed that sins and faults can cause many dangerous illnesses, they thought that god can cause the illness and cure it. Aztec doctors used herbs to cure many types of illnesses but for severe ones, they linked it to gods’ dissatisfaction. Also, they thought that the most effective ways to treat gods’ illnesses were offerings, prayers, and confession. So, when a person commits a sin, he should confess about what he did and he will probably get well faster than using any treatment. And the speech of confession had its own powers, they classified the speeches between bad speech, foreigner speech, and good speech; choosing the right words help to cure the patients faster and give them the energy to get better.
