A main theme in the Great Gatsby is illusion vs reality. F. Scott Fitzgerald demonstrates this by introducing Gatsby to the readers, a character who shows off a completely different side of himself for the love of Daisy. Fitzgerald uses this theme as a way to show readers that the illusion of something never compares to the reality of something else and he proves it by showing Gatsby's illusion of love and life.
