More than half of the nation’s immigrants receive some kind of government assistance, a figure that’s far higher than the native-born population’s, according to a report (Gomez, 2015). Over half of the immigrant’s household receive at least one social welfare benefit compared to 30% for native-led households, according to a Center for Immigration Studies (Gomez, 2015). Some politicians think immigrants are abusing the welfare system. Some Immigrants come to this country with no or very little education so they do depend on the welfare system which there are reports that states that. With the act enforced, it left immigrants in poverty. With the social welfare already strain and in the need of an overhaul, immigrants are falling through the cracks as far as getting assistance. The dependency of welfare for the immigrants are great due to lack of resources. The children of the immigrants are the ones that suffers the most. According to Berg-Weger, the children of immigrants are more at risk living in poverty and experiencing educational and health care deficits (Berg-Weger, 2013). Studies shows that immigrant children are less likely to get on welfare and less likely to stay on welfare unlike American born citizens that received welfare. This is so promising for the future of social welfare. They are breaking the cycle of a being welfare recipient. Politicians or citizen are so concern about immigrants causing the cost of welfare to increase. The problem with welfare is not the ones that need it on a temporary basis but the ones that look at it as a way of life. This article help me understand that immigrants come to United States for a better way of life. They are in a need of temporary assistance while they are here. We forget that they are a high number of native born Americans
