Comparison between two different periods of immigration to Australia According to “Immigration: Australia’s Changing Face”, during 70 years 5.5 million people have come and settled in Australia from 170 counties. The country has a remarkable migration history; a small band of Africans dwelled in Australia approximately 50.000 years ago and James Cook with the expedition was first European that reaching south-eastern coast of the continent in 1770. Additionally, low costs of living, great job opportunities and world-class education facilities attract people to migrate to the country. In 1945, European map was absolutely changed, the chaos was happened. While the first immigration strategy was admitted in 1901, Ministery for Immigration of Austalian Federation was established in 1945. When the World War II ended, people from all over the world immigrated to Australia and influenced the local community obviously; Jock Collins stated: “it really has been the defining characteristic of Australian society”. However there were limitations before 1945, the policy was totally changed that, immigrants had to stay and work in Australia minimum two years. Thus, until 1952, Federal Government had signed immigrations with not only European counties, but also with non-Europeans. Additionally, according to “1951-1965 Colombo Plan” Australian government donated 59 million dollars for importing students from developed counties. The most significant phase of changing migration approach happened in 1973; Australia was declared “multicultural society”. Similarly the motivational factor of immigrating is job opportunities, on the other hand immigrants could easily settle each side of the country, there were first-rate educational facilities and immigrants not only labored in factories, but also worked in high and skilled positions.
