Fundamentally, the goal of this project is to provide cyber security for the 16 libraries public access computer at the Wayward Pines Public Library—ensuring protection from external threats. Such external threats can and do have long lasting impact on the operation of cyber systems to which they are introduced, be they malicious in nature or not. Least we forget the problem that has been the focus of this project all along, the zombification of one of the library’s computers and its subsequent attack on a foreign computer. To this end, achieving this goal is paramount in nature and, as indicated by experts in the field of cyber security, best practice no matter the size or number of cyber systems being addressed. With this in mind, two objectives will need to be accomplished to completed this goal; the first objective is to procure and deploy a firewall appliance to protect the network, the second objective is to acquire and install cybersecurity software to protect the computers, as further explained in the outline below. …show more content…
It will be necessary to purchase and setup a firewall appliance that performs stateful packet inspection to protect the library’s network from cyber attacks perpetrated by hackers and other cyber criminals. This is the first line of defense and the primary approach to providing the best possible protection for a network, as mentioned by Boyles. (2010) Without this critical piece of cyber equipment, the network would be left undefended and at the mercy of hackers and criminals. Without this crucial piece of cyber equipment, the computers would be left unprotected and would quite possible be enlisted by botnets to become members of their zombie
