The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 had a significant impact on the Chinese immigrants. Various laws affected Chinese people living in US cities. They were constantly threatened, harassed, and discriminated against by white men and forced to leave their jobs and homes when new technologies were introduced causing them to suffer from poverty. The unemployment rate rose from the winter of 1885. Many white men lost their jobs, and there was so little to do, so they drank whiskey and gambled. Chinese laborers were very cheap and took over many jobs from white men. The theme among the white population is that they don't need any more Chinese laborers. They did not need the Chinese anymore after they had finished their job, their reason for coming
