It became important to people how it was learnt that humans have memories about which they are incapable of always being aware. With this, there are two types of memories that are in contrast with one another. These are known to be as explicit and implicit memories. Explicit memory is recalling information intentionally or consciously. This memory is also a way of expounding the information. This kind of memory is used every day as people always recall information. Example of this memory is when we try to remember a name or date we have encountered previously. In contrast, implicit memory, however, is unconsciously recalled by a person. Actions imply with this kind of memory are skills that operate automatically and without thinking. Possibly, this is because a person reminds us of something else in our past that we don’t like, even though we are not aware of the memory of that other being. These types of memory, both explicit and implicit memory, can also turn into repressed memories. Moreover, Elizabeth Loftus (1997), stated the repressed memories may be inaccurate or even completely false. With this, it represents false memories. In provision to her statement, implicit and explicit memories are interrelated with false memories. Just like implicit and explicit memories, false memories are constantly used and both can affect the minds of students in terms of decision-making, critical thinking and academic aspects. This is related to the study since Loftus stated that these two kinds of memories can turn into repressed ones; and then repressed memories may have times to be inaccurate and at worst, false. Therefore, whether or not a person thinks he has remembered clearly, they may know the truth because of the provision that memories have the power to be false without a person
