BSN Essential VIII is about professionalism and professional values. Professionalism is very important in nursing practice and defined as the demonstration of core values that directly relate to nursing profession. First core value, that related to nursing practice is altruism. Altruism is the ability of oneself to be selfless and have a dedication to the welfare of others. In nursing practice, altruism is a main key characteristic that needs to be present within the relationship between nurse and her patient to ensure and secure appropriate care and a healing environment.
Emily Gustafson ENGL 208 Prof. Budd 11/10/15 Book Review: The Empathy Exams Leslie Jamison’s first nonfiction book, The Empathy Exams (Graywolf Press, 2014), is a smart and emotionally -wrenching collection of essays on the theme of empathy and human suffering. Jamison’s own self-awareness and presence in each of the essays provides the common thread the collection needs to keep it from becoming overwhelming or directionless. “Part of me has always craved a pain so visible,” she writes in the first essay, “that everyone would have to know.” Jamison’s frustrations with and struggle to find the balance between doing the right thing by empathizing and her own self-pity or questions about her obligations to others made this collection ring true..
Title? Empathy the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. The book Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck is about characters named Lennie and George. the things that happen and who they meet and the story is about how they make friends and make enemies. In this paper I will talk about how empathy is shown across three characters in the book Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck.
Good communication is the key to effectively managing support staff. If you build in opportunities for everyone to feed in their views (in the form of meetings for example), identifying those pupils who require support and assigning a suitable support worker to that pupil, will be much easier because you are harvesting the best from your colleagues; targeting their strengths and weaknesses. Ensuring that all support staff can access information is also important; if your only communication method is by email for example, it is imperative you check that everyone has regular access to a computer or a personal email account. It is always a good idea to deliver information via a variety of methods but ensure this is done consistently, so that people know what to expect and where to obtain or access information.
Health care professionals need to maintain a high degree of professionalism, while possessing the upmost degree of integrity. A patient needs to feel confident and safe at all
These qualities allow for a safe, effective environment that supports communication, health, healing and quality of life for the patients and the staff. Compassion is both the root and the actualization of the desire to see others do well. Strength is the ability to see people through pain and fear to healing and health. Creativity and curiosity supports willingly meeting challenges and solving problems in new ways appropriate, perhaps only in that moment. Scrupulous integrity ensures all parties are respected and resources managed appropriately.
Firstly, I would like to start with the Truman Doctrine. The Truman Doctrine was launched shortly after the end of World War II and the use of atomic bombs against Japan. This doctrine provides the starting point and foundations of US foreign policy towards the Middle East throughout the Cold War. The Truman Doctrine was a foreign policy initiative announced by US President Harry Truman in 1947, making the US a free world leader against communist aggression. The doctrine declared that the United States would provide military and economic assistance to any country threatened by communism and sought to contain the spread of Soviet influence in Europe and other parts of the world.

According to my preceptor last semester I demonstrates a sound understanding of self-care, self-reflection and work life balance. I also have an “understanding of the components of the nurse patient relationship, by maintaining an open and professional relationship with the patients.” I am also “demonstrated self-direction and initiative” (B. In the reading, the author discusses throughout the chapter skills and techniques in the middle phase of working with a service user. Honesty is a value that is highly respected in the social work profession because it creates authenticity and trust in the therapeutic alliance. I agree with the statement completely, as I believe that being honest in regards to what one is feeling as a social worker allows the service user to be honest with how they are feeling as well. Further, it is explained that empathy is of vast importance when working with a service user in order to connect, help them uncover what they are feeling, and find specific approaches and techniques that would be beneficial to the service user. Although I agree that empathy is an important skill for a social worker to have when working with a service user, I feel that at times it can be an issue.
The second key aspect related to expertise, the nurses must have technical skills in order to provide effective and safe care. The third aspect mentioned that nurses must have communicative capabilities. The nurses serve as spokespersons for patients who are often in vulnerable positions. The nurses are easily accessible and can act as a link between the patient and other professions.
A positive outlook and attitude are also vitally important. I find positivity infectious the same way panic can be, so a good temperament should also be a must for a healthcare
But this is certainly a reasonable list that probably covers most of the key elements. How can we apply these qualities in practical analytical situations? As we noted at several points, there are certain inherent tensions involved in trying to put these values into practice; each of them carried to an extreme often contradicts others. Fairness and empathy are characteristics that we demonstrate in the dialogue. It does little good to proclaim ourselves fair and empathic if we, in fact, are arbitrary and rejecting of other points of view of the top.
