Ready or Not? According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (n.d.), flooding can occur in any part of the United States, during anytime of the year. Floods can cause drowning, disease spread, loss of shelter, and other injuries, which can be prevented (Al-rousan, Rubenstein, & Wallace, 2014). To reduce the amount of deaths and injuries, it is important for the community nurse to be involved in all stages of a natural disaster, such as a flood. There are four stages, prevention, preparedness and planning, response, and recovery. In the first stage prevention, it is important for the community to devise plans in order to keep everyone safe if there were to be a disaster. Areas and people who are more at risk are identified as well
