Peer support is a role in the college community that requires giving help founded on key principles of respect, shared responsibility, and mutual agreement of what is helpful. Peer support is based on supporting others and understanding another person’s situation empathetically through experiences one has been through of emotional and psychological pain. Peer support at Kildare is highly important and crucial. I believe this because the younger students need a role model to look up to. I also believe this is true because I was once in the position of year 8s, I understand how it feels to suddenly change environments. I believe the peer support leaders are seen as older sisters. Dealing with my first session, I found that the year 8s felt quite scared of the peer support leaders and were very shy to speak. I understood how the students felt, as I was once in their shoes. I dealt with the nerves of the students by showing how friendly I was by greeting them around the school grounds and really speaking to them. It is important to support one another, as this strengthens communities and makes a large impact on people. Supporting other people shows how you continue gods biding, helping others shows how you are following Gods footsteps. Doing this will get other people to feel good inside and would want to keep the streak of helping others going. As this also results in improving your physical health by decreasing the amount of stress. Peer support in our Kildare community shows leadership deep within. Taking care of those around you would not just allow you to be appreciated but it could also change their lives. The greatest reward of helping others is how you feel after you’ve made an impact on someone’s life. Jesus reminds us how important it is to serve others as a part of leading a Christian
