The First Amendment: Your Right
There are a number of countries that are governed by dictatorship; meaning people do not have choice or freedom and one person makes all the rules that everyone must obey; such as North Korea but in the United States we have rights. We have the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is what makes the government uphold and protect the rights of the Constitution. This is why the Bill of Rights are so important, especially in today's world. The First Amendment helps us to grow as a nation, to be better than our past and adapt to change. According to Polenski, “The very [First Amendment] freedoms themselves provide the means and mechanisms for our society to self-correct those challenges, perhaps a main reason why the First Amendment has endured, unchanged, since Dec. 15, 1791”. The Bill of Rights was a wise move. Our founding fathers saw that it was important to put these amendments in place because if the government is left uncheck, we could easily be like many other nations that are oppressed. The freedom to choose is the most powerful freedom we have. For example, everyone might not have a religion but it is important to make sure people are not punished or discriminated against because of their religion. We can see religious injustice around the world, some faiths are hated and persecuted , some are even killed for their religious practices. This goes against our rights of being Americans, and it should not be tolerated, anywhere. According to the Center for Arts and Cultural Policy Studies of Princeton University, “Our country's founders -- who were of different religious backgrounds themselves -- knew the best way to protect religious liberty was to keep the government out of religion. So they created the First Amendment -- to guarantee the separation of church and state”. This is why the First Amendment is so important because, it gives us the power of choice, the power of voice, and the power of expression which can help grow our country no matter if the choice or opinion is liked or disliked, it is
