The painting is oil on canvas and contains an extensive amount of contrast. For example, the bright vermillion blanket against the dull eggshell colored door. The disparity between the colors used is prominent. Additionally, the fusion of ornate patterns and simplistic solids is evident. The tablecloth is a geometric mixture of cream and periwinkle.
When looking at the painting for the first time, the viewer’s attention is caught by the bold red, blues, yellows and whites. The prominent primary colours illuminate a clear visual path for the viewer to follow as the subject matters are so vivid compared to the muddy background. The viewer first looks at the golden spheres, starting from the biggest one, before observing the blue and then the red truck. The white diagonal line on the bottom of the truck engages the curiosity of the audience, provoking them to follow down to the dashed road markings. The process is then repeated subconsciously, highlighting how the artwork keeps the viewer moving around the artwork.

The brilliant hues of greens, purples, reds, and yellows that are strategically brushstroke on the piece give of a sense of impressionism. The characteristics of this piece capture the modern them of leisure activity. Caillebotte’s young cousin Zoe and brother Martial are depicted in this piece through the two characters. Both characters are dressed relaxed and have middle to upper class attire. The painting contains element of modern style through the scenery and garden.
However, the top fraction of the painting is more light because it represent the sun and the other half of this painting has a darkness which can be the shadows of the lights or to illustrate the big rocks. The painting that I chose to analyze was William Maw Egley’s Omnibus Life in London (1859). Painted on an oil medium, it depicts a scene of an omnibus, a horse-drawn carriage that acted as public transportation, pulled over at a certain stop along a particular route (Tate). In the painting, it features a crowded bus as more people attempt to board it. There are various people from every type of social class, which will be examined during the contextual analysis section to interpret the meaning historically. Also, this paper will analyze the formal structure of the painting through color, lines, space and mass, and composition.
The painting depicts what seems to be a panoramic view from afar but looking closely each aperture and objects make up the impressions of faces. From the left side there seems to be an aperture looking over a big cliff with branches of trees. This cliff and branches make up the face of an old person. The rock exposures within the cliff form the illusions of wrinkles, wrinkly lips and a long and untreated mustache. The branches give the effect of baldness, contributing to the overall appearance of an old man’s face.

When a viewer first looks at the painting, they see the cow and man observing each other. Reading short stories are and will continue to be a treat for everyone. Being able to fit a fully developed story in just a few pages is amazing. For a freshman in ISM who always needs to write an essay after finishing a story, short stories can be quite helpful. Not only do they entertain people in a short amount of time but they also ease the process of understanding the story. “The Mark of the Beast” is one of the few short stories that 9th graders encounter in English class and arguably the best one out of all of them.
Even the woman’s frame and posture seem to follow the lines created by the railings of the viewing box. The railings are also implied lines, the first thing our eyes go to is the woman, and then we follow the railings to the man who has his gaze set on the woman. The man’s gaze gives us implied lines that lead us back to the main focus of the painting, the woman. The artist also uses light and dark to guide our eyes to the important parts of the artwork. Most of the artwork is dark, while the woman and the man looking at her are in the light.
“The Open Window” is an oil painting by Henri Matisse made in the summer of 1905. It is a perfect example of the new art current which inspired French Art at the beginning of the century known as Fauvism. It represents the view from the window of the hotel’s room in Collioure in which the artist stayed. It is a small painting with sizes 55.3 x 46 cm, but it contains explosive and bright colors. Matisse has portrayed the scene in an inviting and light-filled way and with a large variety of tones and colors used to paint the boats floating on the calm sea and the sky during the sunset.
The portrait represents the beauty of the time period. It holds simplistic colors with detailed shading. The artwork is very intriguing to me. I love the detail in the background, there are tiny brushstrokes that makes up the mountains and sky. Also, I find the shading of the mouth and eyes very interesting.
