In a systematic system, a dominant currency allows for capitalism to grow within societies. To counteract, alternative currency “seek[s] to overcome perceived inadequacies of official currencies by supplementing or bypassing them” (Tibbett, “Alternative Currencies: A Challenge to Globalisation?”). The dream currency is relatable to what Make A Dream Foundation entails. Make A Dream Foundation grants dreams to people dealing with a life threatening illness (dreamfoundation.org). Instead, the dream currency is open to everyone who possesses the currency. It is a currency to enhance living conditions for human beings. This will create a sense of community as one will need “others’ gifts as we need each other’s generosity” (Eisenstein, “To Build Community, an Economy of Gifts”).
3. Use in Society
In this society, the currency has value as one redeems a bill to have their dreams granted, while in return, the individual tries to grant the wishes of the person granting them their dream or for another person. The exchange can be done through group meetings or through one on one interactions. Through the meetings people conduct will inhibit features of the Gift Circle; gratitude, appreciation, and reciprocation (Eistenstein, “To Build Community, an Economy of Gifts”).
