Insight for In Cold Blood Using journalistic styles, Truman Capote give an autobiographical account of a murder in a small town. Capote uses his style to make things work for him. He has an idea to research the landscape and the real murder. He befriends two cons who the killers re based on and learns their story. He shows the story in a different order than most stories are told. At the beginning, he shows the ending of the story, and then he recreates how it came to be. His unique way of telling the story makes it intriguing for the reader. He tells Perry’s life story, and how his father abused his mother, his three siblings, and him. Later in this life, Perry and his father are reunited and live together. They hunt, fish, and survive off the land. Perry’s life of crime starts by doing petty jobs with his dad, and this gets him thrown in juvenile detention centers. Capote shows the emotional connection Perry has with his friend Willy Jay. (Truman p. 41-46) He explains how Willy Jay helps Perry during his time in prison. The reader learns more about Perry. He is an honest good hearted man who got a rough start in life. Capote make his charters feel sympathy towards the killer. (In Cold Blood p. 204) While Perry is in jail he meets Mrs. Meier she was an understanding women and she took care of him. The reader can see the compassion she has for him. She cooked his favorite food and wrote him a letter before the court telling him she will remember him as a friend not as a killer. (Truman p. 254-259) Capote gives insight into the character Dick. He is a man who just wants to escape the life he has now for simple life. Dick is a guitar playing man who loves to fix automobiles and that’s all he wants to do in life. Mr. Clutter was a farm owner who is a leading figure in the community. Capote making a fictional world that is in chaos because of the events that take place. Capote then shows the town becoming calm returning to their former selves. (In Cold Blood p. 204) The reader is given detail about Mr. Clutters wife Bonnie she has a mental disorder and cannot function in society. Kenton is the least mentioned family member but the reader still gets insight of a boy who is awkward in school and loves to fix things. Lastly Nancy is the most loved member of the Clutter family.
