At the end of the play, The Diary of Anne Frank, the last statement said is, "In spite of everything, I still believe people are good at heart.". This is something said by the character Anne Frank, a young girl about the age of 13 during the Holocaust. Another key thing to remember throughout my essay is that Anne worked with what she had and she turned the worst moments into beautiful ones. Anne Frank was an enormous influence for a countless amount of books as well as plays not to mention, she also tremendously influenced history. I put trust in the idea that the reason she said, "In spite of everything, I still believe people are good at heart.", is that she was hopeful. I say that she is hopeful because she believes that even the worst people are still lighthearted.
I believe that Anne is hopeful, even in the darkest of times because in the play she said, "You know the way I am going to think of it here? I'm going to think of it as a boarding house. A very peculiar summer boarding house, like the one we-". She is hopeful by saying this because, she took a desolate, dark, and depressing time, and turned it into a cheerful memory. In the play, The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne says, "What's the point of thinking of misery if you're already miserable? That's stupid!". She directed this statement to her sister, Margot because Anne feels that Margot is being negative. As I said she wants the hiding place to stay as positive as possible so any negativity, to Anne, is unacceptable. Anne believed that there was no point in being negative if they are already in a horrible place, she believes everyone should stay positive. She wants to believe that if you're positive it will all be alright. Anne tries to remain hopeful, therefore she does not want the Annex to be a negative, disconsolate
