1. What, in your opinion, did Baker hope to accomplish as a result of his conversation with Rennalls? Did he succeed? Why or why not? From what I got from reading the case, no, Baker did not want to accomplish his conversation with Renalls because he knows he was step over the line when he talked about the sensitive issue that he want to Renalls admitted it by himself. Other than that, Baker hoped to be able to hear Rennalls admit that his resentment towards other races, specifically Europeans. Baker asked Renalls to come in to his room’s and have a little conversation. The conversation was about to discussed and dealt with before he took on the new position which is Chief Manager, that require him to be equitable and amicable treatment to the different races subordinates. Did nonverbal communications play a part in this case? Be specific and give examples. In this case study, there was a part that they use non-verbal communications which is means facial expressions, gestures, eyes contact, and etc in order to react in what people saying. In paragraph 9 lines 15, there is one part that Baker said to Renalls to have a sit and offer the cigarette to him. Baker did that as sign for their friendship and informally way to communicate with Renalls and in order to make Renalls felt more comfortable. Baker start the conversation by mentioning that Renalls will sat on his chair’s in future and he want to share his experience by saying ‘you can accept the idea that I may be able to give you the benefits of my long experience.’ After saying that, Baker saw Renalls stiffen in his chair. Renalls was using gesture which is nodded to say that he was agreed with Baker.
