Inception: Film Analysis

There is one singular topic that I constantly find myself being able to talk about for hours on end: film. I have an ardent passion for film that manifested itself first through conversation, and later on, through creation. I noticed this love seven years ago when I watched Inception for the very first time. Absolutely blown away by the film, I talked about it incessantly for months to come; however, I soon found that I approached these conversations with more nuance and depth than my peers around me. They would note the big set pieces in an action blockbuster, the jokes in a comedy, or the jump scares in a horror film. On January 13th of this past year, I decided to take the knowledge that I had gained through conversations and research and embark on the journey of making my very first short film. With every passing day I worked on the project, I found myself more enamored with the process than the last. Being able to take an idea that was in my head and stopping at nothing until that concept was realized brought me immense satisfaction and fulfillment. There were a few weekends where I would wake up at 7:00 AM to begin filming and would blink, only to find that it was 8:30 at night. After filming wrapped, I would lock myself in my room and edit the clips together, often starting at 2:00 in the afternoon and stopping at 3:30 in the morning the next day. In both these instances, I did not mind working so hard or staying up so late because, ultimately, I was doing what I loved and bringing my vision to life. Of course, roadblocks would arise, but when that happened, I would go back, continue my research online, and find a solution to my problem. At long last, I finished my short film in April and it was incredibly satisfying to finish a project I had worked so hard on. In every project I do, my goal is to make others feel how I felt when I first watched Inception and many other films after that. I would gladly lose track of time for that any
