By the time of the French surrender and the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1763 Britain was in considerable debt and began to compensate by increasing tax regimens on the colonies in America. The occurrence of the new levying of taxes created great distress between the colonies and Britain's already rocky relationship. The British began to become more and more involved and controlling of all the colonies affairs, and it ended salutary neglect of its colonies. Due to this new asserted control and later agitations, the colonists were ultimately driven away from reconciliation and towards rebellion and assertion of their independence
A landmark Supreme Court case known as Tinker v. Des Moines was argued on November 12, 1968 and decided on February 24, 1969. The parties involved in the case where the plaintiff, the Tinker family and the defendant, the Des Moines Independent Community School District located in Des Moines, Iowa. The issue or focus of the case was the extent of the first amendment to students on school grounds and whether or not the school district acted in accordance to the constitution when prohibiting the use of armbands as a symbol of speech. Petitioner John F. Tinker, his sister, Mary Beth Tinker, and his friend, Christopher Eckhardt, attended public schools in Des Moines, Iowa where they wore black armbands as a symbol of protest against the government’s policy or involvement in the Vietnam War. The Des Moines School District had become aware of the planned protest and created a policy against it on the 14th of December.

After the French and Indian War, the British and the colonists had to face rising tensions and problems resulting from the war. Due to a massive debt from two wars, the British king had to recover as quickly as possible. Since the British considered the war started in the colonies, the blame was placed on the colonists and thus the British became more involved in the colonies. Due to increased economic policies and tyrannic rulership from 1763 to 1783, ideas of American independence changed drastically from wanting fair representation to complete freedom from the crown.
Lastly, the third most important event was the signing of the Declaration of Independance. It was written June, 1776, and it was signed by everyone on July 19th, and August 2nd. There was five men involved in the writing of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, Roger Sherman, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Robert Livingston. It was written in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in what is now called, Declaration House. It was signed in Independence Hall, what was then called the Pennsylvania State House.
The Delcaration of Independence covers religion, in my opinion, because they wanted everyone in The United States of America to be able to have their own freedom of choice. Whatever religion you decided that you wanted to be, that was up to you. It wasn 't forced upon you by anyone, and you were able to make this decision on your own. I think this is a good thing because not everyone feels the same way about religion, everyone has different opinions over it, and there are even some that don 't believe in any of it at all. No matter what you decide though, it 's your choice, and no one gets to make that decision for you.
In modern-day, the Founding Fathers' interpretations of freedoms are viewed as restrictive because they only applied their ideals to white land-owning men. However, these ideals were progressive for their time. The colonists gained a sense of individualism while Britain was busy at war, which later helped form their four truths. The first two ideals were that all men are equal and god gave them the right to life, liberty, and property. The last ideals claimed that it is the government's job to protect those rights through the consent of the people, and the people secured the right to change the government if they violated said rights.

Although it took an additional month for the document to be signed, it didn’t take as long for contentions to arise. This was primarily due to the fact that the Declaration of Independence didn’t address slavery. Why though, was this the case?

The colonies have lived sufferably and under constraint by the British for many years. Under Great Britain, the colonies did not have the autonomy they believe free people such as themselves should have. The colonists governing and individual freedoms were greatly smothered by their perceived tyrant. Rightfully so, Jefferson et al outlined the abuses suffered and reasons for the separation of Great Britain and the colonies.
