Aging: Treating Asian Indian American elders can be very difficult. For example, many elders consider the old-style Indian system of medicine called "Ayurvedic Medicine" means preventing and curing illness. This system suggests herbal supplements to cure and prevent illnesses. Elder patients from India don't prefer taking medicines that are prescribed by their doctors.

Being diagnosed with chronic illness: In South Africa, many people are unaware of chronic or severe psychiatric disorder treatments. They are provided with OT treatment, but most of them are not aware of it. We should always read the medical history of the patient. What medications they are allergic to or what medications they don't prefer? For instance, Buddhist patients might refuse analgesics pain medicine because of the sedation side effect. In order for Buddhist to practice, the clarity of mind is very important.

Dressing: The Muslim culture has its own safeguards. Patients can have close contact with only same-sex caregiver. For example, female patient prefers female caregiver to help her with dressing.

Bathing: In Hinduism culture, daily practices like bathing is viewed as harmful after meal. In order to provide comfort to patients from certain culturally living in long-term care should be given a bath every morning before breakfast.

Grooming: In OT practices, cultural values must be taken into account when helping patient with BADL's. For example, grooming in European- American culture is done privately in one's room or bathroom every morning.

Cooking: In Indian culture cooking are done differently. They prefer only metal utensils for cooking. It is good to know for OT practitioner, when teaching daily living skills like meal preparation to a patient from that
