The Industrial Revolution transformed society into a well oiled machine. It took place between 1760 and around 1820 to 1840. The industrial Revolution meant a transition into many new manufacturing processes. It took place in the United Kingdom (Great Britain). The reason it took place here was because the UK had a greater head start on commercial and technological advances than the rest of the world did at the time. This revolution brought many hope, the Industrial Revolution was overall a positive time for the people of Great Britain: job opportunities had increased significantly, the amount of technological advances and new inventions was endless, and education finally played an important role in society. Because of education the amount of jobs for citizens has increased, people get to choose their own path. Some may say that the paying system for males to females was unfair then and still unfair now. But truth be told the reason the men got paid more during the Industrial Revolution was because their work involved a ton of manual labor. Document eleven (pg 12) shows the men’s work compared to the women’s. Men: mill manager, mechanics and engine driver, carpenters and blacksmiths, winders, spindle cleaners/sweepers, machinery attendants, etc. As you can see about 90% of the men’s work involved some hard physical labor. Now let’s take a look at the women during the Industrial Revolution: gauze examiner, assistant overseer, twisters, wasters, weavers, winders, etc. The women had an abundant amount of job opportunities but many did not capitalize on their chances to get a job. The telephone was created by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. Bell says, “it has revolutionized communications throughout the United States, Britain and the World.” This invention literally changed humanity forever, it revolutionized the way people pass on information. Anywhere from a household to the battlefields, this invention affected so many lives. The steam engine was (re)invented by James Watt in 1769. James Watt was fascinated by how the steam engine had functioned so he decided to create one of his own, only bigger, better and more efficient. The steam engines could do anything from pump water out of the mines in order to power itself , or applying it to traction engines and railway locomotives. This machine helped people in many ways: it took away the dangers of manual labor in the mines and it also made travel a whole lot more efficient for the people all across the world.
