The United States has experienced many economic changes over time and many factors play into this shift. Industrialization and transportation in America were both very different before the civil war. Before our society focused on big businesses and manufacturing they relied on mercantilism to keep their society alive. They did not have a system where they could manufacture their own crops and other raw materials because they received items from Great Britain. Even after becoming their own nation the colonies had little to nothing and didn't have efficient transportation to help them expand. This industrial revolution spread manufacturing all over the country and it led to more factories and jobs that people could work in. Many inventions were made to create better efficiency in the work setting and this led to more productivity and urbanization in the country. These advancements grabbed the attention of many other nations and led to migration and Immigration to the Industrial region of America. This revolution brought great changes to society, but it also caused many economic problems. There was no government regulation seen the in the industry because the majority of political leaders believed in Laizze Faire. Companies later took advantage of this idea of leaving things alone and grew their companies. The steel and oil companies had full control of the industry and made a system that was very corrupt. Many companies worked together to create monopolies in order to get rid of competition and raise prices. The government and many companies did not consider or care about how this system would affect the poor, so they continued to thrive and let poverty become a big economic issue.
