Appendicitis On a windy October night myself and my little cousin where taking care of our aunts baby when she started feeling an unbearable pain in her lower abdominal especially on her right side we thought that it was menstrual cramps but it turned out to be something worst. We contacted our aunt and told her the symptoms my cousin was feeling and she immediately came back to the house and drove her to the emergency room where we contacted her mother. We rushed her to the emergency room because she was crying like I’ve never seen her cry before. Within the hour the doctor was able to diagnose her with appendicitis. There are two different surgeries. Laparoscopic surgery, which is a multiple small abdominal incisions. The surgeon will insert a specialized surgical tools along with a video camera in your abdomen to remove the inflated appendix. The next one is laparotomy, which is just one incision to the abdomen that is much longer. The doctor will be the one to determine which one would best fit the patient. Laparoscopic would result in a faster recovery. A less painful healing process, the scarring would be less visible. It’s most recommended for patients who are overweight along with elder patients. The recovery process depends on the severity. If it ruptured, the recovery process is much longer. For someone whose appendix didn’t rupture the recovery process isn’t too severe. Still know the limits. Your doctor will let you know what kinds of activities you should avoid completely and which ones you can still do. Such as lifting heavy objects, or putting your body in certain positions that would stretch the wounds. That would cause you to return to the ER.
