Blackfish (2013) is an American documentary film directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and produced by Manuel V. Oteyza. The documentary primarily concerns the controversy of captured Killer Whales at the theme park Sea World, primarily that of Tilikum, an Orca responsible for the deaths of 2010 SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau and two other individuals. The documentary begins with this incident but goes as far back to the 1970 's show the audience how young Orcas are captured in the wild and taken from their families and natural environments. Since its release at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival Blackfish has achieved both critical acclaim and caused controversy regarding SeaWorld 's treatment of its animals as well as retaliation from SeaWorld as to the legitimacy of the film 's claims.
The Great White Shark The Great White Sharks, known mostly because of their white underbellies, are one of the most powerful aquatic animals in the world. They can swim at about 25 Miles Per Hour (40 Kilometers per hour) because of their strong muscles and forceful tails. In addition to that, male Great Whites can grow around 11.5 to 13.1 feet long, while females can grow from 14.8 to 16.4 feet long. This paper will demonstrate how Great White Sharks are an important part of their ecosystem, how their diets work and will adequately describe their habitats. As predators in their ecosystem, Great White sharks help maintain the coral reefs and seagrass habitats.
Shark alley exhibits different varieties of sharks and gigantic manta rays. It is a ring shaped exhibit located at the very bottom of the aquarium. Dolphin discovery is homed to eight Dolphins. The exhibit is open for visitors to catch a glimpse how Dolphin’s live and interact with each other. Jellies Invasion exhibits a nine different species of jellyfish, and also illustrates how these animals are
Usually, they are dark gray to gray on the back and white on the belly. The dolphin 's skin is slippery and smooth, they don’t have any fur in their skin. Habitat Bottlenose dolphins can be found in tropical and temperate waters around the world. You can find them in a variety of locations, like the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans, Mediterranean and Black Seas. They can live in estuaries, bays, lagoons and, obviously, in the ocean.
A wonderful companion and ruthless hunter, the strong Chesapeake Bay Retriever is an American breed with a fascinating history. Thanks to their sturdy stature and thick coats, these dogs can tolerate harsh climates and are always willing to get outdoors and work all day long. Having grown up around water, this breed loves to swim and spend lots of time outdoors, making it perfectly suited for active owners who get plenty of exercise. If you aren’t prepared to get outside for long walks and runs on a daily basis, this might not be the dog for you. If, however, you are capable of fulfilling the Chesapeake Bay Retriever’s exercise requirements, it can be an excellent family companion or hunting partner.
Despite the vast differences in adult form and habitat between these species, their embryos exhibit intriguing parallels during certain stages of development. For example, dolphin and human embryos go through comparable periods in which they develop bud-like limb structures. These early limb buds eventually develop into the various limb structures unique to each
(Whale and Dolphin 1) Young marine animals born in captivity are suffering while they are being separated and or rejected by their mothers, who, in some cases, have also been born into captivity. Because their mothers have not been able to learn and develop their natural maternal instincts in the wild, the effects of their inabilities to mother are being passed down from generation to generation. It is indisputable with current evidence that orcas, dolphins, and other marine animals have a level of intelligence that rivals that of humans in some instances, which is why it is no surprise that they suffer from mental health disorders as well. “Like humans with PTSD, throughout their lives, captive orcas suffer from threats to their physical health and families as well as exhibiting persistent fear, distress, avoidant behaviors and increased aggression.” (Ferdowsian, Hope and Carol Tavani 1).
Domesticity and Adventure: The Island of the Blue Dolphins As My first true piece of novel-related literature, I happened to pick The Island of the Blue Dolphins out of a library full of books as a young child. It was not a recommendation, nor was it just one of a few books in which to choose. As I read this book as a child, the realism bestowed a mental experience upon me that was irreplaceable. I was happy to see this book mentioned for one of the assignment choices in our class, and the story brought back a very warm feeling.
“A moving and unforgettable story.” This is the review from ALA Booklist about The Island of Blue Dolphins. In 1835 an Indian girl named Karana was left on the Island of Blue Dolphins alone after her tribe was rescued by white men and taken off the island. The Indian girl was left to survive on her own until she was rescued 18 years later. The Island of Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell is a historical fictional story about that indian girl and her survival, her loss, and her unusual friendship with the island’s animals.
I am going to tell you all about whale sharks’ adaptations. First, whale sharks diet is that they do not attack They do eat shrimp. Second, there habitat is in the warmer areas. Some have been spotted in the cooler warters. Last there habits they are solitary creatures.
SeaWorld is a billion dollar company based in the U.S. They specialise in the taking care of animals, such as killer whales, dolphins and sea lions. They have over 67,000 animals in their care and are rescuing more and more every day. Despite common belief, SeaWorld does not abuse the animals themselves. The workers of SeaWorld try their best every single day to look after every species of animal, and in return, are now being hassled and abused for it.
Dolphins are wild creatures of the sea, intelligent animals that shouldn 't be living in captivity. Captivity isn’t their regular habitat, their normal life is chasing fish on the sea. We capture them to A life in a small tank which is not healthy for dolphins. They have been slaughtered on the coast of Japan, Taiji. So after seeing what conditions some dolphins are capture and kill by Japanese fishermen on The Cove, it made me question the situations of all the dolphins that we currently saw in dolphinarium making acrobatics in captivity because money can buy everything but happiness and freedom.

Marine organisms are animals, plants, and other living things that live in the ocean. A Marine biologist is a scientist who studies marine organisms and studies the bodies, behavior, and the history of marine organisms. They also study how marine organisms interact with each other and their environment. I have chosen to research about Marine biology because I would like to learn about sea life, the ocean, and its surrounding environment. To start off, a Marine biologist might study coral, crabs, fish, microscopic marine organisms, sea stars, seaweed, squid, or whales.
They usually swim in large spaces but because there is not lots of space in their new homes they swim around in circles and circles being cheerless! Occasionally, they start banging their heads on the tanks and abuse themselves, because they have nothing to do. Put yourself in their shoes, visualize you being stuck in a room that has nothing in it, except you. I would start banging my head on the walls after a while! As a matter of fact, whales are trapped in cramped enclosures, unable to dive deeply compared to the wild where they can.
