Robin Hood

Child or adult we have all heard of Robin Hood and his “merry men”, but is what we are hearing true? Old folk tales and books and movies show a young buck dominating the richer government officials and stealing their money from taxes to give back to the poor. The only proof of Robin Hood is in those stories and what people say about him, although the stories often contradict themselves we still believe that he once roamed the earth and fought injustice. According to Leitch Thomas “Adaptations without sources” the limited exposure to Robin Hood facts helps lead the information of Robin Hood into being a myth. I figured in order to find out if Robin Hood was real to find out his real name and where he was from. There are a majority of names thought to be his actual name, though they are also thought to be wishful thinking. The reason they were thought to be wishful thinking is the fact that the names resembled the outlaw name greatly, names such as Robert Hode and Robyn Hode. Legend tells it that Robin Hood was a very well know man, but yet no one has the facts to prove that. In some stories they say that Robin Hood was a very kind and noble man to the king and in other stories they claim him to be a vigorous short tempered man towards the king. Although there are several stories including the one in the cartoon movie of Robin Hood and his Merry Men stealing the kings jewels, gold coins, and clothes to satisfy the needs of the town. Though this may be a complete myth it still backs up the fact of Robin Hood being vigorous towards the king. The earliest certain mention of Robin Hood dates back to about 1377 in the B text of “William Langland’s” Piers Plowman, and a similar mention in the C text, dated to about 1393, but were in two completely different
