There are few things more valuable than information. People spend outrageous amounts of money to gain information, people die over information. Information is truly the most valuable commodity. In truth, entire governments crumble or assemble based on restricting, twisting and contorting, or releasing information. Examples include the United States of America, Germany under the Third Reich, and North Korea. Each government mentioned has a dramatically different opinion on censorship’s role in its governing. How each government has chosen to release or withhold information, respectively, greatly reflects their core values and plays an arguably large role in the country’s success at large. This is due to the fact that humans can make premeditated and well thought out decisions. If a country has correctly and well informed, as well as knowledgeable and educated, citizens, then the country will be much better off economically and socially. In doing so, the basis upon each existing argument can be quickly isolated and scrutinized. Censorship occurred as a means by which to keep people safe, as though it is a good connotation of “What they don’t know can’t hurt them,” or in certain cases, someone else. Due to this, it becomes obvious that there is a small sliver of room for censorship. That is, if leaked information could harm a citizen or the country, it should be withheld until a time when it will not hurt the person in harm’s way. This being said, the information must pose a threat to the country, not necessarily the government, because a corrupted government could contain information which would begin an uprising by the people and make the statement that the information is being withheld for sake of state, not
