Title of Informative Speech Did you know, after the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1875, there was a gap of over 80 years before the next bill promoting equality was enacted in 1957? The Civil Rights Act of 1957 had many positive effects on the Civil Rights Movement as a whole. In this speech, I am going to outline the act by specifying some major historical leaders, and actual events that all had built up to the enactment of the bill in 1957. I will also be looking at a few results of the bill that still influence our lives over 60 years later. Malcolm X was one of the many African American leaders who rose to power during the 1950s and 60s. He was also a member of the Nation of Islam. Malcolm was a strong supporter of human rights. The bill ordered that a new federal justice department be created to monitor civil rights. The Commission on Civil Rights was to be required to advise and send reports to congress, as well as the president, on various issues involving acts of discrimination or inequality. The Commission on Civil Rights was originally planned to be disbanded after two years, but it still operates today. The Commission has an advisory committee in each state. They help write these reports without receiving pay. They also have the ability to receive extra help from other government agencies. The bill also put in place several precautions which strengthened any and every persons ability to vote legally. Part IV of the act had prohibited any individuals of depriving, or interfering with another citizen's right to vote freely as they choose.
