Pete Rozelle The NFL today consists of 32 teams, 2 conferences, and 4 divisions in each conference. In February, one team from each conference battle it out in the Super Bowl. But the NFL wasn’t always like this. In 1955, there were 12 teams.
The football that we know today started in 1922 when the American Professional Football Association change its name to the National Football League. The team with the best regular season record was the champion. in 1960 a second national football league was started to compete with the NFL. Eventually it ended up the being two conferences to make up the NFL, the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference. The two implemented a system of playoff games and the champions of the two conferences went head to head in a game called the Superbowl.

The NFL is one of the most popular sports down south. In the NFL there are lots of player that don’t succeed. Players in college play very hard to make it to the NFL. The NFL draft is a great thing they have come up with now so the sorry teams that are in the NFL can get some talent now. These are three NFL players that are known for their abilities on and off the football field.
College football and the NFL are two of the biggest sports today in America. The first college football game was played on November 6, 1869 between the New Jersey Tigers and the Rutgers Queensmen. The first NFL game was played on September 26, 1920 between the Buffalo Bills and the Boston Patriots. College football is more fun to watch than the NFL because there are more teams, better games, and immaculate stadiums. One of the things that makes college football more fun than the NFL is the 128 Division I teams compared to the NFL’s 32 teams.
To a lot of people, mostly boys’ cheerleading isn’t considered a sport. But did you know that cheerleading was originally meant for boys? I bet you didn’t, the first cheerleader’s name was Johnny Campbell; he decided that one day that he wanted to lead chants at the University of Minnesota’s football game. He then created a whole team that would help him lead the crowd at different University of Minnesota sports games. Then, on November 2, 1898, Johnny Campbell was recognized to be the world’s first official cheerleader.
College football is getting to be as popular as professional football. In some areas of the country, college football is a lot more popular than NFL football. In Nebraska for example, Memorial stadium in Lincoln becomes the state 's third largest city on home football game days. The stadium becomes a sea of red as fans dress in the team colors in support of the Cornhuskers. Almost as popular as discussing the games themselves is discussing the ranking systems.

The atmosphere brings me into my own little zone. It’s where blood, sweat, and tears are put day in and day out. The place where men can be almost as rough as they want with no punishment.
