A life changing event is defined as, “Is a specific circumstance that alters your life or a family member 's life.”, according to Jackie Lohrey, author of Sapling.com. For some, their life changing event is the happiest day of their life, but for me, it was one of the scariest. My grandmother was diagnosed with skin cancer a few years back, but no worried she is cancer free on this day. I believe this is important for you to know because skin cancer is one of the most unthought of cancers. Breast cancer, for example, has its own well-known awareness month and color, where skin cancer has neither. Skin cancer is a very dangerous disease, but if you are careful and know your facts, it can be easily avoided. During this speech, I will tell you about Skin cancer, what it is, why it is so dangerous, and how to prevent it.
To start, what exactly is skin cancer? According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, “Skin cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells.” Skin cancer often develops because the skin was exposed to ultraviolet radiation in the sun or tanning beds, and it normally shows up in an irregular spot or mole on the skin. Some types of skin cancer do not grow or spread, so therefore do are not “staged”, but for the ones that do, stage 0 is when the skin cancer cells are strictly in the epidermis. Stage 1 is where the cells get deeper, but not to lymph nodes or organs, and same goes for Stage 2, but just deeper than Stage 1. Stage 3 is where the cells have reached the lymph node, but not organs. And then lastly, Stage 4 is where the cancer cells have spread beyond the skin and lymph nodes to organs.
