THE AFRICAN LUNGFISH Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the African Lungfish and its characteristics. Central Idea: The characteristics of the African Lungfish can be quite misunderstood due to its name. There are many factors that make this type fish different from many that are known. INTRODUCTION I. Imagine sitting in a restaurant starving and you overhear a conversation between a group of biology travelers discussing an African Lungfish. The hunger that was once so known just turned into nausea and an ill sick feeling. Now your stomach is upset and all you can think about is the name of this creature that you happen to not know anything about but the name has disgusted you. The African Lungfish forms a hard dry shell to protect the outside of the body from the heat In addition, to being different and shape, size, and behavior, the African Lungfish also has a longer life span than other fish. They are hunted and killed for food in some parts of Africa but if they are able to survive the hunt they live long lives. When the female African Lungfish reproduces her eggs, they are than keep secured by the male African Lungfish until they hatch. II. The African Lungfish belongs to the order Lepidosireniformes and have varies names associated with the species type. A. Several of these fish groups are now extinct or non- existant B. Some of the most common names are Tana lungfish, slender lungfish, and Austrilian lungfish 1. Lungfish that are a lived currently include the marbled lungfish which has the largest gene of animals 2. These fish can be aggressive when being hunted for 3. The inside of the fish is hunted for food in parts of Africa I. As studied doing research there are many different species of fish but some are rarely known among the US culture
