"Belonging to the Dragon," written by Bernice Freisen is narrated by the main character, Starla, a high school student who struggles with her independence and creating boundaries. To overcome this challenge, she will have to defy her controlling boyfriend, who feels a lack of empathy towards her, so she can begin her journey of self-love and confidence. This development is shown in the story as her emotions guide her through a journey to freedom. By the end of the story, Starla has transitioned from being a self-doubting and impressionable teenager to a courageous woman.

In the book The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore, the decisions that were made for the author Wes Moore, led him away from living the life of a criminal, to living the life of a very successful man. In his life, Wes’s mom (Joy) made most of the important decisions that led him to success.
In the movie "The Fly", by David Conenberg, uses telepods to transport in-organic and organic objects. Conenberg, showed the horrible effects of what could happen to humans if teleported in his machine. The movies starts out with Veronica, a journalist who decided work , observe, and document Seth's findings, but only to find herself falling for him. Eventually, they both had a sexual relationship which inspired Seth to further his experiment by teleporting baboons. Later, Veronica meets up with her former boyfriend which causes Seth to become very jealous and out of control which ends their relationship.
One of the quotes that really caught my attention was, “ It gave me the best assurance that I might rely with the utmost confidence on the results which, he said, would flow from teaching me to read.” This quote caught my attention because I do believe that reading has so many benefits. Reading teaches you vocabulary and you gain knowledge from the words. In the real world, the more knowledge you know, the higher you rank in work and class.
