Elie is affected by all the atrocities and inhumanity however he adapted and is now accustomed to the way he is. His family is deported from Hungary, brought to Auschwitz, and experiences starvation, abuse, and death. Elie was taken from his home and forced to a concentration camp with only him and his father. They did everything they could to survive, getting weaker and losing more hope as they went on. Eliezer was the only survivor of his family. As more people around him died, more lost faith, they starved, and succumbed. From time to time, Elie would think about leaving his father. When Elie’s father was first beaten with an iron bar, Elie wanted his father to stand up and fight for himself. Elie was mad at his father because he did not stand up for himself. Elie completely ignored his father. He knew his father was sick and already weak. The SS was on their way to Shlomo and was getting beat for calling Elie out. Elie had turned the other way, ignoring his own father and leaving him for dead. This demonstrated the change in Elie’s innocence. Elie was impacted by his environment that changed him into listening to the brutes when they said,” it's every man for himself” Elie had promised to not leave his father and prayed to God even though he no longer believed in him. He had promised to not leave his father’s side and was nothing like Rabbi Eliahou’s son. However, in the end he failed. Eliezer was affected by the cruel treatment because they had been treated like animals. They would starve and be locked up like strays. Elie was dirty, smelly and thirsty. He and his people were stripped of their clothing, mortality, faith, and self-confidence; all while being regarded as less than actual people. This experience changed Elie’s behavior and is now more of a “brute” because of the way people shaped him. This demonstrates lack of dehydration and is treated less than an actual human
