Wyatt Tucker Mrs.Briglia Block 1 28 March 2023 “Initiation” It could affect peoples realization that they don’t need a group for finding their true self. “Initiation”, by Sylvia Plath, is about a girl in high school trying to join a sorority, but is getting put up with task to see if she’s worthy like making her go buy them sandwiches and sending a handsome man out to talk to her to intentionally make her fail, but then she had later on realized that she doesn’t need them or the sorority to be herself.In “Initiation”, by Sylvia Plath uses symbolism , conflict, and indirect characterization to show when one is searching for an identity, it can lead to them finding their true selfs. In the story “Initiation”, Plath uses setting by showing when and where the story taking place. It shows in each setting something important happens in the story. “What girl at Lansing high would not want to be in her place right now Millicent thought amused”. (Plath 239.) Invitation, Plath uses conflict this shows Millicent finding her true self from putting up with theses challenges. Some conflict in the story is when Millicent is forced to do things or when girls do things or have something done to them like in this instance “there had been a slight crunching sound and then she felt the cold slimy egg white flatting and spreading on her face and down her neck”.( Sylvia Plath, 239) and this shows conflict because one of the girls smashed the egg on Millicent head which ins conflict between the girls and
