A lot of people believe that children are born innocent. They believe that it is the world that corrupts them with age. In the novel “Lord of the Flies,” William Golding highlights the acts of evil committed by children who are still deemed “innocent”. This accurately represents how human nature is evil, as seen in literature and the real world. Golding presented human nature as evil, that eventually will always win. Through a parallel of both the adults and children at war. “Kill the pig, cut her throat”. Bash her in” (Golding). This is an accurate reflection of humanity because it proves how even those like children who are deemed innocent in society are ultimately evil. "Jack smacks piggy. Piggy's glasses flew” (Golding). Piggy’s glasses broke as a result of him and Jack getting into an argument about power. Jack is often manipulating the choir boys to gain authority among the group, so he can be in control. He exemplifies a power-hungry person, especially once he begins to ascend into madness. Throughout the story, he goes to great lengths to stay in power over others. Everyone on the island is afraid of what they do not know. Their action of violence is promoted by fear, this fear leads the group of boys to choose Jack as their leader since he poses as the most powerful between Ralph and him. In “Animal Farm” by George Orwell, there is a farm of animals that took the farm from the humans. Their leader is now a power hungry pig. To stay in power over the animals “we pigs failed in our duty”? Jones would come back!” (Orwell). Napoleon is seen countless times, doing anything to gain power over the farm animals. He tries many tactics to do so like causing fear among the animals of Jones coming back, like Jack and how he tries to use the boys fear of the beast returning. Napoleon also uses his power to convince the animal's snowball to be a traitor and that it is treason to talk to him. In the beginning Jack is seen as a rule follower, but as the story goes on, he increasingly becomes obsessed with hunting. His desire to feel powerful and let loose clouds, his judgement and civility to the point where he becomes a violent and brutal leader. The group of boys, "Leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore... no movements but the tearing of teeth and claws” (Golding). the group violently killed Simon. They were overcome with savagery, so that they didn’t even notice the assumed beast was Simon trying to warn them. Ralph and Piggy aren't innocent either. During the mass murdering of Simon, they join because they are overcome by the savagery around them. In Myanmar “Soldiers systematically killed and raped villagers before torching their homes” (Myanmar: No Justice, No Freedom for Rohingya 5 Years On). Humanity can be savage in the real world, not just in literature. Those soldiers are committing evil actions on people because they don't agree with their ethnic or religious identity.
