Jack is desperate to show his dominance and power. Jack says, “Couldn’t let you do it on your own” (106) to Ralph when Ralph was trying to reach and get closer to the cave that the boys thought held the beastie. The cave is the one area that Jack was not able to explore while hunting due to its limited accessibility. As Ralph tries to reach the cave, Jack follows him. “Jack was edging along the edge.”
Frequently, Jack attempts to turn the boys against Ralph, only caring for his own desires. For example, “He’s not a hunter. He’d never have got us meat. He isn’t a prefect and we don’t know anything about him. He just gives orders and expects people to obey him for nothing.
Lord of the Flies Jack represents being power hungry and disobedient for the incorrect reasons In the book Lord of the flies, there are several things that connect the earth right now and human expertise. In the book most of the boys go through a phase that they never went through before, through out the book they're going through a "animal-like" phase that I feel the reader does not expect from them. I decided a decision} to concentrate on Jack because I believe that he was a lot more animal-like then the other boys because of that I think he extremely stands out because of his actions and feelings he made the other boys animal-like. I feel this is often necessary as a result of the influence he created on the other boys is quite like
Lastly, Jack is known as the rebel of the story who disagrees with the leaders, and is pure evil from middle to end. Although Jack is evil, his bad character trait ensures his survival and alliance with the boys. The first example of when Jack’s evilness is shown in the story is when Jack hunts the pig and puts its head on a stick, the line says “ Jack held the head up and jammed the soft throat down on the pointed end of the stick which pierced through into the mouth. He stood back and the head hung there, a little blood dribbling down the stick” ( Golding, 150). This shows Jack’s evilness because instead of fearing the beast he is offering him the head of the pig that he just brutally murdered.
(Golding 142) Even though Ralph wants to have fun with Jack, he wants to survive more. Jack is immature and gives in to his wants. Ralph knows that Jack shouldn't be doing this. Jack progressively gets more savage and feral throughout the book.
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young boys are trapped on an isolated island. There is no adults and the children are allow to do whatever they want to do. As the story progresses, it shows how the children became less human as time went by. At first, they were just normal, little boys. After a few years have gone past, the boys are very different than they were in the beginning.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, a Russian novelist and historian once said,”The battle line between good and evil runs through the heart of every man.” In William Golding’s novel Lord of the flies, Jack, the supposedly good former choirmaster and student leader, is a representative of evil and violence when tempted by savagery and greed. Jack has the major authority and develops a higher status compared to other characters in the novel. He is a born leader who carries out his concerns over various problems, however the abusive use of power leads him towards the evil path. Golding has effectively used figurative devices such as a beast metaphor, colour symbolism , controlling tone, imagery of Jack’s appearance and environment to demonstrate his desire of power and devolving character.
Ralph and Jack have very differing views on how the society of boys on a stranded should be run and the governmental ideas. Their physical appearance, personality traits and their political ambitions shape their identities on the island and causes conflict when choosing a leader. Jack's ideas for society showed great leadership but his physical appearance and the way he represented himself caused others to vote against him for someone else. " Jack slammed his knife into a trunk and looked around challengingly," (Pg 33). Jack's physical appearance and the way he acts tend to scare and fear the little kids on the island causing them to not like him.
If an adolescent were to commit a horrendous crime such as murder, should they be convicted as guilty or not? Kids at the age 12 should realize what is right from wrong. They obliviously know that if they were to be in a position where they were killing another human, that is just a murderous crime and should be guilty for their actions. In the book Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, a boy named Jack had committed two murders on the island where everyone was stranded. Some people agree that if adolescents were to do something irresponsible and regretful it's because “their brains just haven’t physically matured yet.
Wearing a cloak, and being followed by all the choir boys, he looked mysterious, and controlling, and dark. “Inside the floating cloak he was tall, thin, and bony; and his hair was red beneath the black cap. His face was crumpled and freckled, and ugly without silliness.” - this quote is in the very first chapter, meaning that even from the beginning he was intently serious and unattractive, implying that he is of a villain type. Jack allows Ralph to be in control, but still seems to act like he is the leader anyway.
Several boys carry with them their evil intentions. Jack is a power hungry boy who loathes the fact that Ralph was voted chief. Jack becomes bitter over this and eventually makes it even more transparent, even to Ralph that he hates him. Ralph and Jack make a decision at the beginning of the story for him and choristers to become the hunters of the island. The first time Jack and his hunters stalk down at pig, Jack find himself unable to kill it.
Jack lost his sanity and civility and this changed him in more ways than imaginable. Jack was a natural leader when the boys first came onto the island, but as time continued he became a horrible dictator. On the first day on the island, Ralph and Jack competed for chief of the island. Ralph won. Jack was unhappy with this result, but it didn’t yet throw him into a spiral of craze and anger.
From the beginning of the movie, Jack desires power above all other things. He was furious when he lost the election to Ralph, so in order to gain more power he continued to push past his assigned duties. Jack was very strong willed and had a savagery instinct, and he is very violent. As Jack became increasingly agressive to the boys with the exception of a few follwed his ways. They were afraid to stand up to him: therefore, they just did what ever he ordered.
He orchestrated the boys to follow suit and make him “king”. Jack had an animalistic drive for power and would hurt anyone in his path. “See? See? That’s what you’ll get!
Jack does not agree with the ethics of Ralph and his priorities. He is a leader like Ralph, but he leads with the power of fear and evil, not respect and humbleness. He is very boastful in his ability to hunt and provide for the group. The idea of providing for the group is morally correct, but he takes it to far to the point of an obsession. He hunts for the rush, and kills for the thrill.
