HOOK In Shakespeare's Hamlet, there are three characters that display qualities of insanity. Laertes and Ophelia all exhibit different forms of madness in the play hamlet. Hamlet's Madness is mainly about him pretending to be mad to pursue his plans for revenge. Laertes, on the other hand, displays a more impulsive and vengeful form of madness after the death of his father. Ophelia's madness is more tragic and internal as she succumbs to grief and confusion following the death of her father and how much rejection. Each character's Madness contributes to the overall theme of the play and influences the plot in different ways. We see different types of Madness through different characters and how they deal with it. For instance, Hamlet decided to take that “Madness” or Revenge and make it into a play to show everyone the real deal. Laertes wanted to take his “Madness” or Revenge and make sure Hamlet pays for what he has done to Polonius. Ophelia’s “Madness” was mixed with delusion and ludicrous. the two people who have had the most depressive and suicidal intakes would have to be Hamlet and ophelia. If there was no Madness, there wouldn't be a story. there wouldn't be tragedies. there wouldn't be anything that adds attention and more information to a story to make it more likable and readable and interest the reader and drag them in
