A medical biller and coder needs to understand medical terminology when coding for many reasons. ICD-10 codes (both CM and PCS) are really specific, so a coder will need an in depth knowledge not only of medical terminology, but anatomy and physiology as well. To be proficient, a coder should know the organ systems as wells as their parts. A coder and biller should also know where to look for codes related to a certain part of the body. So knowledge of medical terminology is a must.

The Care Programme Approach (CPA) is a way that services are assessed, planned, co-ordinated and reviewed for someone with mental health problems or a range of related complex needs. People can be offered CPA support if they are diagnosed as having a severe mental disorder. The Care Programme Approach (CPA) was introduced in 1990 to provide a framework for effective mental health care for people with severe mental health illness. The CPA model was reviewed in 1999 with the publication of the Mental Health National Service Framework and to incorporate lessons learned about its use since its introduction.
Such as, several hospitalization for mental health concerns, lack of training and education in medical staff that lead to improper referrals and occasionally chart reviews by a provider after a massive emergency. This has provoked patient leaving with out referrals and not being linked to care or being managed poorly. Many patients have stigma even being associated with the term ‘mental health’, which can then lead to no treatment at all (CORRIGAN & WATSON (2002). Another main focus is to provide the necessary information/resources to prepare practitioners for the arrival of integrated health care. This includes the education being provided to staff members in hopes to engage patients in behavioral health services to improve their overall well-being, medical and behavioral health.
In 2005, a family friend by the name of Randy Birdsong was a patient at Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital located in San Antonio, Texas. The Veteran Affairs (VA) medical staff was performing surgery on his abdomen. After the surgery, he was notified that there was insufficient space to accommodate his continued care. The V.A. advised him to keep his wound clean with a fresh roll of gauze, and sent him on his merry way. A few days later, Randy was back at the V.A. hospital with a noticeable infection taken place in his abdominal region.
As I progress in my career, I feel that it is important to develop a personal style and technique that clients can relate to.
