Intensive Outpatient IOP Case Study

177 Words1 Pages
IOP stands for Intensive Outpatient Program. Its goal is to provide intensive treatment for individuals and families in need of a safe environment. It is for elderly adults, especially those age 65 and older, who have symptoms of mental illness severe enough to significantly affect their daily functioning.
The IOP is an important stepping stone in the patient 's continuum of care - it serves individuals who may be too seriously ill for normal outpatient treatment but whose symptoms aren 't severe enough for admission as an inpatient. It may also be used as a step-down program after discharge from an inpatient facility.
