Internal conflicts incorporated often in Names/Nombres in Julia Alvarez's writing to emphasize how characters thinks about her name and how people treat it. During paragraph 17 when she is talking about how she feels the author writes “I just wanted to be Judy and merge with the Sallys and Janes In my class. But, inevitably, my accent and coloring game me away”(17). By telling us her thought, the emotion is enhanced because she doesn't want to be a part of two different cultures which she should be happy for.
