Interview Findings The interview findings were categorised into groups such as positive feedbacks of using songs, negative effects of using songs and issues and constraints relating to integrating songs in the classroom activities. Three teachers agreed that using songs in the ESL classroom is very beneficial, but they tend to overlook it and drop that approach due to many constraints. There was one teacher who claimed that using songs in the ESL classroom do have some disadvantages, though it can also be beneficial. In a nutshell, all teachers do agree that songs are effective teaching tool. But it is not used to the maximum level, due to some shortcomings and limitations. Songs have a magical presence that keeps them lively and enthusiastic. They are able to turn a dull and boring class into a party class. They claim that songs keep a positive energy flow in the class. Students love songs that are related to them or songs they are familiar with. If they are able to connect with the songs listened, they are naturally able to blend with the flow of the lesson. Using songs, teacher can even create fun and lively activities and students tend to overlook the passing of time once they get so engrossed into the lesson. 2)Building bond If students are familiar with the songs played in the classroom, they can easily cope with the lesson without much strife. Students are able to discuss issues in the song that are related to their life. They love popular songs of the current season. Songs create space for building bond and good rapport between one another when group activities are conducted. They can work in pair or in a group when issues in the song are discussed. Students even feel connected to their teachers if the songs selected by their teachers are appropriate and related to their lives. 3)Vocabulary …show more content…

They are not good enough for proper learning to take place. Song may bring some benefits in learning vocabularies and improving pronunciation, but that is just not enough to enable the students to score good grades in exams. Songs can be fun, but there is no depth in the learning that takes place. Students learn on shallow level. Songs can incorporated once in a blue moon to captivate the students and break the normal routine, but frequent use of songs will not help them to master the grammatical components, forms and functions and proper structures.
