Inventions like integrated circuits, video tape recorders, and satellites did a lot to shape the future of their respective fields. All of these inventions have been built up and are still in use today. The technological advancements made in the 1950s are perhaps some of the most valuable inventions when it comes to daily life. At the beginning of the 1950s only 9% of households owned a television, by the 1960s that number grew up to 87%.
Women in the 1950s were dealing with a lot of things during the 1950s. They were dealing with sexism and not being allowed to seek more than the ideal fulfillment for women. Women are looked down upon and thought of less than men during the 1950s.
During the period of 1880- 1930, this was an age for development and the idea to correct the wrongs that have been done before. 1880 - 1930 had two periods in this time: the Industrial Revolution, and the Progressive era. Without a doubt, the Roaring Twenties brought along easier ways to handle, prepare, and store food. Both new inventions and upgraded ones contributed to easing the hassle of preparing foods. One of the most significant upgrades came with the refrigerator which now had a built-in compartment for freezing food and ice (“Inventions in the 1920's"). People no longer had to waste uneaten food. Instead they could resort to wrapping and freezing it which helped it to last longer than it would in the fridge alone.
When people mention the industrial revolution, many think of the early 1900s when the surge of new technologies and industrial improvements began. From the changes in the technological use of materials like iron and steel that opened up new markets to new jobs and a booming economy, the United States was a force to be reckoned with. People reminisce with great pride on a time when the United States became a powerhouse of one-third of the global products used internationally. However, with good comes bad and a major issue that still affects us today is the depletion of natural resources. While technological improvement opened up new markets they are also the reason for environmental destruction and irreversible damage.
The 1960s saw more and more women entering the workforce (moreso than in the 1920s), changing the dynamic within families. In the 1920’s the technology around Canada was advancing every time and changed the lives of the people living there. After WWI, Canada’s economic prosperity allowing Canadians to enjoy more leisure time and technology. Two of the most advance technologic invention that were being used in the 20’s were the Automobile and the Radio. The Automobile was the first car invented by Henry Ford, this vehicle was used to help people to live an easy life by making transportation easier and faster to get from one place to another. However, there were modern versions of cars like; the Nissan GTR, Toyota Supra, Ferrari spider, McLaren p1, etc.
The 50s were a time when women were considered less skilled in fields of work. During the war, however, women took up many jobs that men were in. Once the men came back, their masculinity was threatened by the rising era of women working.
The Berlin Wall and Great Depression were over and the new era came upon to spark the beginning of the 1950’s. The typical focus of this era was to protect families individually and preserve domesticity, and hold certain standards too succeed in life. To include, that in 1950’s, there was much improvement when it came to working and jobs. There were more white collar jobs in the office and other administrative settings such as: advertising, marketing, etc. After the Cold War, there was a vast Economic boom, people were earning money and putting money in the banks more than ever before.
In the 1930’s women were not saw as independent features. Women were expected so much out of them as a house mom. They were expected to do all chores, take care of the children and husband, and were always expected to prepare meals. Women were not meant to be independent during this time. They were not meant to go to college and have a degree in anything they wanted.
Although technology from the 1910’s might seem historical now, people seeing the first telephones and radios would say otherwise. The technology sounded as though there were no downsides, but a different perspective always tells a different story. The lavish mansions housing phones and radios only affordable to the rich also held a remarkably contrasting class. Servants dealt with a dramatic change when new technology was introduced; their jobs were now at stake because of its ever-growing popularity. Domestic servants were severely impacted by technology because the new inventions would result in the loss of their jobs and home(s).
The Roaring Twenties were full of dramatic, social, political, and economic changes ("The Roaring Twenties,1). Post World War I, the era marked the beginning of modern times with new and worthy developments. More and more people were abetted to live in the cities, most people had jobs, therefore money to spend, and they spend it by “having a good time” (McNeese,88). While the society got rid of their miseries; sciences, arts, and businesses renewed themselves by evolving.
