We all have the power to be independent. Sometimes being independent will cause you struggle, but sometimes being independent can be a skill that can be helpful. In “Runner” by, Carl Deuker, a senior in highschool, Chance, suffers from poverty and has to learn how to be independent, because how his mom left him and his dad is never around, he is most likely at the bar. Be independent caused Chance to really struggle and he loses focus on what’s really important.. In “Gathering Blue”, KIra’s mother unfortunately passed away, causing her to be alone.
The process of gaining independence is an important part of who a person is and how they overcome issues they come across in their lifetimes. Several characters from the book, The Bean Trees, are either independent from the beginning of the story or develop to become independent. Due to these characters strong, self-supporting personalities, they can solve the issues they come across in a self-sufficient manner without help from others. These characters are never stuck relying on others for help or forced to wait for others. In the book The Bean Trees, several characters personify independence throughout the work, which supports the idea independent people can self-sufficiently overcome obstacles they come across.
“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will,” said Charlotte Bronte. Independence is significant to people as well as countries. Freedom is an abstract word that is not deeply contemplated enough. It is a word that loses value as time proceeds. It was a privilege that was not granted upon the colonists of the Americas.
The Importance of Independence Throughout the entire book, Equality 7-2521 realizes that everyone is missing something. Like their are people that want to spend time to themselves and that they don’t know their own strengths by themselves. You get punished for wishing for anything that involves just yourself it seems like. It’s like they're missing a special word or something, something like independence.
Individuality means the quality or character of a particular person or thing that distinguishes them from others of the same kind. Independence means freedom from control, influence, support, aid, or the like, of others ("The Definition Of Independence"). Within the three texts that I chose for my project, a person can see many examples of individuality; including Scout from To Kill A Mockingbird, Lily Owens from The Secret Life of Bees, and from the character A in Every Day. All of these characters show that fear can only limit your potential if you allow it to. They also show that to become an individual one must develop independence, and not follow the influence of others.

Although my experiences are not as drastic as hers, she inspires me to make my own decisions. As I grow, I realize more that my independence is important because I cannot rely on other people as much since everyone’s experiences are different. For example, when they were children in Guyana, my parents had to walk miles to school while I am able to take the bus to school. Although my parents and I went to school up until the same age, our experiences lead to different approaches in situations. The transition from middle school to high school was eye opening because in middle school the class would move together, whereas in high school, everyone went their own ways.

Learning to support yourself is fundamental for any success you ever hope to achieve. The value of independence is that it makes you a human being. When you have independence, I believe the next step is to encourage the independence of others. Think your own thoughts, live your own life, and help others to do the same.
Within the mission field, families have many needs, especially when it comes to psychological and spiritual needs. Children specifically have needs for education, growth, and development. And families as a whole for unity, resilience, satisfaction, healthy communication, as well as a sense of inclusion and interaction. This interaction includes those within the mission field they are serving and their mission organization as a whole, as well as those supporting them financially and through prayer back home. These families in this context are surrounded by stress and strain stemming from the cross cultural settings.
Children’s freedom involve, going place’s, getting things they want, and eating a certain kind of food they want without being judge . Adult’s freedom involve, living wherever they want, buying whatever they want, and working wherever they want. What does freedom mean to me? It means I get to do what I want without being judged. I’m free to live where I want, and eat what I want.
