All We Want Is Equality! The film Iron Jawed Angels provides a historical insight and the lengths that women in history went through for the right to vote. The film sheds some light on the conflicts with the feminist groups, and their fight for equality. Furthermore, how two women known as Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, would not back down and continued to fight for what was right. When music is picked for a film, it helps us to connect with what is happing in the film. The music that was played throughout the Iron Jawed Angels movie allowed for the audience to connect with the what was happening in the film. It showed the sexist thinking of the men, the power men had, and the gender differences. While showing demeaning comments made towards women, and how women are only meant to bare children, take care of a household, and be submissive to their husbands. “Since our society continues to be primarily a “Christian” culture, masses of people continue to believe that god has ordained that women be subordinate to men in the domestic household.” (Hooks, p, 37). Although the men can be feminist to, this article provides the power that men have, and the power the men had through the movie. Not only does this article speak to the inequalities of masculinity and femininity, it showed the inequality of race. Even though the feminist movement was about equality and justice, it still separated the whites from the blacks. The film highlighted some moving and significant parts.
