Irony can be shown in many titles in today’s books; irony can display humor and weakness. From the titles of the books needed to read this summer, Wit by Margaret Edson and Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro displayed the most irony in the title of them. In Wit, the protagonist thinks they are thinking and responding too quickly. However, Vivian has time to think of their past mistakes which really are not as paramount to their success. Vivian thinks she has wit, when really she is heartfelt and descriptive in her decisions. In Never Let Me Go, the main characters had many chances to hold on to her friends but decided not to. Kathy understood what she could do and what she should have done. However, she let her friends go and the long life they could have had. She realizes that her life is going down a slope and coming to an end. She decides to think of her past “mistakes” and how she could have made her life better. However, her mistakes are not huge. She was a tough teacher and stresses over the smallest things. One of her mistakes she wished she had done otherwise was when she wished she gave Jason, her doctor and past student, an A. As Jason says he got an “A minus. It was a really tough course,” (Edson 22). This is just one of her mistakes that rode on her during her time at the hospital. Instead of focusing on her success, she went straight to thinking of her mistakes. This part of her wit destroyed her inside and was part of the reason she applied for a DNR. She did not want to struggle anymore after she finished her fight. She is content with the life she has and realizes through her doctor that she did get more good out of life than
