1. Atticus Finch is a widowed father of Jean Louise “Scout” Finch and Jem Finch. He is a very wise and very smart man who gives good advice, and is sure to be honest with his children. Scout is the main character in To Kill a Mockingbird. She is a young girl with a wild imagination, and is adjusting to a new life as she enters her first year of school. Her brother is named Jem, who is going into 5th grade, and spends his time at home playing with Scout. They both live in Maycomb, which is a small county in Alabama where all of the families have stereotypes and everyone knows a lot about everyone else. The story takes place in a small county in Alabama called Maycomb during the Great Depression. In Maycomb, everyone knows everyone else in the county, and the county is full of its own quirky rumors and traditions such as the Radley house and the Cunningham family. The county is predominantly filled with white people, many of whom consider themselves to be above black people in the social class.
4. Dill Harris is a boy who is Scout’s age from Mississippi. He lives in Mississippi for most of the year, except for in the summer, where he lives with his Aunt Rachel in Maycomb. Jem respected Dill because he had done things that Jem wanted to do, such as watching Dracula the movie, or touching the Radley Place.
5. Dill was fascinated by the Radley place because of its mystery and intrigue. He always heard all the rumors about the Radley Place and Boo Radley, and this resulted in him wanting to learn more. The Radley Place interests Dill, and Dill still wants to learn more about its spooky history.
6. Dill dared Jem to touch the Radley Place. While this does not sound like that big of a deal, for those two it was scary. Jem was nervous, but ended up running up, touching the house, and sprinting right back. Dill wanted Jem to do it because he wanted to know who was inside the
