Why is feminism today a concept that is steadily deteriorating in terms of relevance and appeal? Why do the open-minded, educated, well-read, sections of our population denounce feminism as a fanatical label, despite asserting their belief in gender equality? Why does the word make us cringe, and why do we look away when a daring few attempt to justify the theory?
Feminism, unlike most, was a movement before it was a doctrine. People were practicing its ideas before they gave it a name. The socialization of basic biology, and the bigotry it enticed has irked and inconvenienced society throughout recorded history. But it was only when these conceptions spread to the literati did the movement take a concrete form and acquire a name.
Unfortunately, the movement forfeited all hope of mass appeal when it decided to sign itself with the ‘fem-‘ prefix; because when have men ever been known to tolerate such a blatant oversight?

The problems that women face are more visible, more physically and emotionally harmful, more frequent in occurrence and therefore more urgent. So yes, there is an oversight. Granted.
But if there is one thing I know for certain, it is that if the everyday small, but obtrusive, instances of sexism that women encounter are dealt with, the male situation will change as a natural consequence.
